Famous Islamic Scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Dies | India News


MUMBAI: Renowned Islamic scholar, spiritual leader, and Padma Vibhushan recipient Maulana Wahiduddin Khan passed away due to complications from Covid-19 on Wednesday night.
He was 97 years old and is survived by two sons and two daughters. His son Saniyasnain Khan said that Maulana Khan was admitted to a private hospital last week after he had a chest infection and also tested positive for Covid-19. Born in Azamgarh in 1925, the Maulana was educated in a traditional seminary.
A well-known pacifist who advocated peaceful coexistence and advised moderation in conduct, he fought against extremism and orthodox interpretations of sacred texts. He wrote more than 200 books, including a commentary and a translation of the Quran in English, Hindi, and Urdu. His lectures, many of them available on YouTube, are immensely popular.
