AYODHYA: In the midst of the deadly second wave Covid run, Ramjanmabhoomi in Ayodhya was closed on Ram Navami day and the temple city remained under a virtual curfew with all major shrines including Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhavan and Dashrath Mahal closed for pilgrims. With the borders sealed for devotees, including Kumbh seers returning from Haridwar, even Ram ki Paidi on the shores of Saryu was deserted with all entry points to the entrenched ghats.
Barring a fleeting glimpse of street monkeys and policemen at checkpoints, silence engulfed Ayodhya, a city that would be eager for Vedic songs and hymns on Lord Ram’s birthday.
With the district administration imposing strict restrictions on the movement of people, the devotees were unable to accept Ram Lalla’s blessings and were forced to celebrate at home. At Ramjanmabhoomi, a lone priest and police officers on duty were present. Speaking with TOI, Acharya Satyendra Das, the head priest of the Ramjanmabhoomi temple, said, “Like last year, this Ram Navami too, Ram Lalla’s darbar has no devotees. I offered laddoos and gifts to the Lord on his birthday.”
