Giving a “real picture” of the Covid situation, HC tells Gujarat government | India News

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court has asked the Vijay Rupani government to be honest and transparent in its dialogue with the public and give a “real picture” of the number of Covid-19 patients and deaths caused by the pandemic in the state .
In their order approved on Friday in a suo motu PIL on the Covid-19 situation, the court of Chief Justice Vikram Nath and Judge Bhargav Karia highlighted certain issues that the government must focus on to control the pandemic situation. and ordered that “accurate data RT-PCR tests with correct numbers of positive results be made public.” “The state should not be shy about releasing the correct data from test results if such numbers are not reported correctly,” he said.
The HC also said: “The state has nothing to gain by hiding the real picture and therefore the suppression and concealment of accurate data would lead to more serious problems such as fear, loss of trust and panic among the general public.” . He said that to fix things, the government “needs to have an honest and transparent dialogue with the public.”
The judges said the government “is not responsible for the increase in cases, but should publish real data on the cases to eliminate the public perception that the data provided by the state is not accurate.”
