Court Grants Deep Sidhu Bail in Case of January 26 Violence | India News


NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to actor and activist Deep Sidhu, arrested in connection with the Red Fort violence on Republic Day.
Sidhu’s lawyer told the court that the mere presence did not make him part of an illegal gathering and that he was an honest citizen taking part in a protest.
Special judge Neelofer Abida Perveen granted Sidhu a personal bond with two local bonds of Rs 30,000.
The court also ordered Sidhu to join the police investigation when necessary.
The prosecutor representing the Delhi police claimed that Sidhu participated in the protest with the intention of creating violence and disregarding the national flag and that he was the main instigator of the illegal gathering.
Sidhu was arrested on February 9 in connection with the Red Fort violence on Republic Day during the farm tractor parade against the Center’s three new farm laws.
On January 26, thousands of protesting farmers who came to ITO from the Ghazipur border clashed with police, the agency claimed in its FIR registered in connection with the Red Fort violence, adding that many of them were driving tractors. They reached the Red Fort and entered the monument. where a religious flag was also hoisted.
In the FIR, the police said that two magazines with 20 active cartridges were seized from two officers by the protesters who also damaged vehicles and stole riot gear.
