Serum CEO Urges US to Lift Export Ban on Raw Materials to Increase Vaccine Production | India News

MUMBAI: Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla said on Friday that the United States should lift its embargo on raw material exports to help boost vaccine production.
IBS currently manufactures the Covishield coronavirus vaccine, developed by Astrazeneca and the University of Oxford. The vaccine is not only used in India, but is exported to various countries.
Poonawalla had previously admitted that the SII has had trouble shipping the required number of vaccine batches due to government-related and bureaucratic hurdles.

Tagging the Twitter username of the President of the United States, Poonawalla said in a tweet: “Respected @POTUS, if we really want to come together to defeat this virus, on behalf of the vaccine industry outside the US. “I humbly ask that you lift the embargo on raw material exports outside of the US so that vaccine production can increase. Your administration has the details.”
