Defendant IM Cites “Delay” in Bail Trial, Delhi HC Sends Notice to NIA | India News

NEW DELHI: The Delhi HC on Tuesday requested the NIA’s response to an allegation by the alleged key agent of the Indian mujahideen Abdul Wahid Sidibappa, arrested in 2016 on terrorism charges, seeking bail for an “excessive delay” in the trial.
Attorney MS Khan, representing Sidibappa, said that the defendant has been housed in Tihar jail for almost five years. He said his client is entitled to a bond as there has been no progress in the case and the trial has not started as charges have yet to be filed. The defendant has also requested instructions from the special courts to adhere to the mandate or carry out the daily trial of the planned crimes related to the UAPA.
A court of judges Siddharth Mridul and Anup Jairam Bhambhani issued a notice to the NIA regarding the defendant’s petition and listed the matter for their hearing on May 6.
