NEW DELHI: India and France on Tuesday it explored ways to strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, including the India-France-Australia trilateral mechanism, addressing emerging challenges in the maritime and spatial domain and working together in the area of ​​climate action and biodiversity protection.
In this regard, India welcomed France’s decision to take over the ‘Maritime Resources’ pillar of India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, the government said in a statement after a meeting between Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.
The two ministers also held discussions on a number of regional and global issues of mutual concern, reiterating their shared commitment to a multipolar world and their faith in multilateralism, the government said.
In order to harness the full potential of bilateral trade and economic relations, both sides recognized the importance of speeding up discussions on a trade and investment agreement between India and the EU. “In the context of changes in a world impacted by Covid, both ministers recognized the immense opportunities for greater collaboration in various sectors such as trade and investment, defense and security, health, education, research and innovation, energy and climate change.” the statement said.
