CALCUTTA: Two public interest litigation was filed on Monday in the Calcutta High Court seeking a judicial investigation into the incident of the CISF dismissal in Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar, during the fourth phase of Saturday’s elections. Four people were killed in the CISF shooting.
One of the petitions sought that the CISF unit involved in the firing be removed from the electoral process and not deployed during the remaining four phases. The cars also demanded adequate compensation from the families of the deceased.
Seeking the formation of an independent committee headed by a retired HC judge, the petitioners, a Calcutta high court advocate, and a school teacher emphasized the need to unravel the truth and identify the offenders.
While the Trinamool Congress has said that the shooting was unprovoked, unnecessary and indiscriminate, the BJP has claimed that the forces were attacked and that the shooting was in self-defense.
The petitioners argued that although the central and state forces are deployed for the proper conduct of the elections and to guarantee security and peace, the opposite appeared to have occurred in Sitalkuchi and that the forces had not followed the rules on the use of weapons. of fire.
