Covid-19: India Records Highest Single-Day Increase So Far With Over 1.68 Lakh New Cases | India News


NEW DELHI: India hit a new coronavirus infection record with 1.68,912 new cases, the highest increase in a single day so far, bringing the total case count to 1.35,27,717, according to Ministry data Union Health Department updated on Sunday.
The national recovery rate for Covid-19 has fallen below 90 percent.
Active cases have passed the 12 lakh mark, while the death toll rose to 1,70,179 with 904 new deaths daily, the highest since Oct. 18, data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
By registering a steady increase for the 33rd consecutive day, active cases have risen to 12.01.009, representing 8.88% of total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 89.86%.
The number of active cases was at its lowest level with 1,35,926 on February 12 and was at its highest with 10,17,754 on September 18, 2020.
The number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to 1,21,56,529, while the fatality rate dropped further to 1.26 percent, according to the data.
India’s Covid-19 count had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It went from 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and surpassed the one crore mark on December 19.
According to the ICMR, 25,78,06,986 samples have been analyzed until April 11 and 11,80,136 samples have been analyzed on Sunday.
