NEW DELHI: India administered over 27 lakh doses of vaccine on the first day of the 4-day ‘Tika Utsav’
On Tika Utsav Day 1, more than 27 lakh of vaccines were administered as of 8pm today, the Union Health Ministry said.

Hours earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called ‘Tika Utsav’ the beginning of the second great war against the crown.
In a tweet, he also made four requests to citizens. “We are going to start ‘Tika Utsav’ today across the country. I urge compatriots to do four things: help those who need help to get vaccinated, help people with COVID treatment, ask questions and motivate others, and, if someone tests positive, create a micro-containment zone in the area, “he said.
The four-day vaccination program, which began on Sunday on the anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s birth and will continue until the anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth on April 14, aims to vaccinate the maximum number of eligible people against the coronavirus.
In a meeting with top ministers last week, the prime minister suggested the idea of a ‘Tika Utsav’ to give India’s fight against the coronavirus further momentum.
It comes at a time when cases are increasing at an unprecedented rate in India, with the country reporting over 1 lakh of cases in the past 5 days.
