BASIRHAT: Union Interior Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that he is willing to resign his post only if the people of West Bengal ask him to.
However, the senior BJP leader stated that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will have to resign on May 2, as the Trinamool Congress will lose the current assembly elections.
The TMC chief has demanded Shah’s resignation for the shooting killing of four people by CISF personnel during the fourth phase of voting in Sitalkuchi in the Cooch Behar district on Saturday.
“Didi has been calling for my resignation. If the people of West Bengal demand that I leave my papers, I am ready to do so with my head down. But Mamata will have to leave the CM post on May 2,” Shah said. , while on his way to a demonstration in Basirhat, in the northern Parganas 24 district.
The votes obtained in the eight-phase elections for 294 seats in the assembly in West Bengal will be counted on May 2.
Pointing her guns at Banerjee, Shah alleged that she opposes the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to appease illegal immigrants, who, according to him, benefit from welfare schemes but indulge in riots.

Shah said the BJP will completely stop illegal immigration from Bangladesh and withdraw a resolution passed in the assembly against CAA after forming the government in the state.
He promised to introduce a “Chief Minister’s Refugee Welfare Fund” to provide an annual assistance of Rs 10,000 to beneficiaries.
