India celebrates ‘Tika Utsav’ to combat Covid-19 | India News


NEW DELHI: With the aim of vaccinating the maximum number of eligible people against Covid-19, India launched the four-day Tika Utsav vaccination festival on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called ‘Tika Utsav’ the beginning of the second great war against the crown.
In a tweet, he also made four requests to citizens. “We are going to start ‘Tika Utsav’ today across the country. I urge compatriots to do four things: help those who need help to get vaccinated, help people in treating Covid, wear masks and motivate others and if someone tests positive, create micro-containment zone in the area, “he said.
Following Prime Minister Modi’s wake-up call for mass vaccination, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan called on the nation to come together to fight the pandemic.

States across the country, from Madhya Pradesh to Tamil Nadu, stepped up their efforts to increase the vaccination process.
Manipur Prime Minister N Biren Singh took his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday at the launch of ‘Tika Utsav’ at Imphal’s Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar opened ‘Tika Utsav’ at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College and Research Institute in Bengaluru on Sunday.
In Jharkhand, eligible people queued outside an inoculation center in Ranchi’s Ashok Nagar to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
People from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Delhi also participated in large numbers in Tika Utsav and were vaccinated.
The four-day vaccination program, which began on Sunday on the anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s birth and will continue until the anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth on April 14, aims to vaccinate the maximum number of eligible people against the coronavirus.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in India surpassed the Rs 10 million mark and 10,15,95,147 people in the country have been vaccinated against the virus so far.
The Tika Utsav is observed at a time when the Covid-19 curve is increasing rapidly in the country. At the highest peak in a single day, India reported more than 1.52 lakh of new Covid-19 cases on Sunday. This is the fifth consecutive day that more than one lakh of cases have been reported in the country.
