France has dispatched the amphibious assault warship Tonnerre and the frigate Surcouf for the exercise, while the United States is represented by the amphibious transport ship Somerset. Australia, in turn, has deployed the Anzac frigate and the Sirius tanker, while Japan is represented by the destroyer Akebono.
The Quad navies, namely India, the US, Japan and Australia, had also joined forces for the high-voltage Malabar exercise in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea in November last year, following a breach of 13 years.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and South Korean Defense Minister Suh Wook, both former army generals, also made back-to-back visits to India last month to discuss bilateral and multilateral mechanisms to strengthen the security and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
