Increase in Covid Cases: J&K Government Orders School Closures | India News

SRINAGAR / JAMMU: To contain the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the government announced on Sunday that schools from Elementary to Class 9 will be closed for two weeks starting Monday.
“Classes 10, 11 and 12 will also be closed for a week in all schools from Monday to April 11 throughout J&K,” J&K LG’s office tweeted. However, all exams for classes 10 and 12 will take place on schedule.
Taking into account the probability that young children will become infected and transmit the infection in large numbers, the executive committee decided on Sunday to take precautionary measures and also, to put a limit of 200 people in all kinds of social and habitual meetings and functions, subject to strict adherence to the Covid protocol already in force in this regard.
The death rate and Covid-19 cases at J&K have shown an upward trend in the past two weeks, forcing UT management to reactivate all containment facilities, including the test centers that were installed on the last year when Covid complained about J&K.
Meanwhile, in view of the increase in corona positive cases, Government Medical College, Jammu, conducted RAT SWEEP tests for its hostel staff and students and found six positive students. “The isolation of all Covid positive students at Jammu Maternal and Child Hospital has been arranged and it has been decided that the RAT SWEEP test will now be performed periodically on a routine basis,” said a hospital official.
J&K on Sunday recorded 573 new Covid-19 cases, including 105 travelers, bringing the count to 1.33,012, while three more deaths due to the virus brought the number to 2,008, authorities said.
