Chhattisgarh Maoist Attack: 5 Jawans Killed, Several Wounded, 15 Missing After Encounter in Sukma | India News


NEW DELHI: In the second major attack on security forces in Bastar in the past 10 days, at least five Jawans were killed and a dozen injured in a Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bijapur district on Saturday. However, according to the latest development, ANI reports that at least 15 jawans have disappeared after the encounter in Sukma district on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the bodies of two out of every five Jawans who died in the encounter have been recovered, Chhattisgarh Police sources told ANI.
Among the injured jaws, 23 have been admitted to Bijapur Hospital, the sources said.
“At least 15 jaws missing after yesterday’s Sukma encounter. A reinforcement group rushed to the scene. The bodies of 2 out of 5 jaws that died in the encounter were recovered. Among the injured jaws, 23 were admitted to the hospital in Bijapur and 7 in Raipur hospital, “Chhattisgarh police said. Fuentes was quoted by ANI as saying.

On Friday, more than 400 security personnel from CoBRA, STF, DRG and CRPF set out on a joint operation.
On Saturday afternoon, some staff members were attacked. The Maoists are believed to have suffered heavy casualties, the Chhhattisgarh interior minister said, adding that both sides used sophisticated mortars and weapons in the clash.
