Nearly 50,000 New Covid Cases in Maharashtra on Record Rise | India News


NEW DELHI: Maharashtra reported as many as 49,447 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, its biggest single-day increase in infection count since the pandemic began.
With this, the number of accumulated cases in the state increased to 29,53,523. The state also recorded 277 Covid deaths, bringing the death toll in Maharashtra to 55,656.
According to the state health bulletin, up to 37,821 people recovered from the disease state in the past 24 hours. With this, the total number of recoveries in Maharashtra amounts to 24,95,315 so far. Active Covid-19 cases amount to 4.01.172.

Meanwhile, the state capital, Mumbai, reported 9,090 new cases, its biggest daily increase so far.
Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed the state on Friday amid mounting Covid cases and said the possibility of a shutdown cannot be ruled out.
Thackeray said that stricter restrictions will be imposed to control the increase in Covid-19 cases.
The prime minister also warned that the state could face a healthcare infrastructure shortage soon if the current “alarming situation” in Covid cases continues.
With Covid-19 cases increasing in the state, the Maharashtra government has imposed a nightly “curfew” across the state. The state government has banned gatherings of more than five people in public places from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. across the state and has banned public places like gardens, beaches, and boardwalks between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. : 00 am
