Visva-Bharati VC Cites Threat, Seeks Prime Minister’s Central Security | India News

SANTINIKETAN: Vice Chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty of Visva-Bharati has written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the chancellor, seeking central security, claiming that he and his family faced a threat.
University sources said the letter was sent on March 24, a day after TMC’s Birbhum boss, Anubrata Mondal, allegedly issued a threat to Chakrabarty in a public meeting. In the letter, the rector quoted Mondal as saying: “I will teach you (Chakrabarty) a lesson that you will never forget in your life.” Mondal could not be reached for comment.
Chakrabarty currently has an armed guard from the West Bengal government. Mondal’s relationship with the rector deteriorated after incidents related to the university’s attempt to erect a border wall. The Center has not yet responded to the issue. Visva-Bharati PRO Anirban Sarkar did not respond to phone calls or messages from this newspaper.
