Madras High Court rejects A Raja’s request for an urgent hearing of the petition against the EC order | India News

CHENNAI: Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed DMK MP A Raja’s request for an urgent hearing on a court petition challenging the Election Commission order, which barred him from participation for 48 hours and removed him from the activists list star.
Raja’s lead counsel, V Shanmugasundaram, made a mention to this effect before the first court of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Judge Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy.
He pleaded that the request could be heard immediately in view of the urgency of the matter and the availability of a short period of just three days for scrutiny. The election must take place on April 6, while the campaign ends on April 4.
However, the bank rejected the motive. A resounding ‘no’ was the CJ’s answer.
On Thursday, the EC banned Raja from campaigning for 48 hours after finding him guilty of violating the model code of conduct by making disparaging remarks against Tamil Nadu Prime Minister K Palaniswami.
In its order, the survey panel reprimanded Raja for violating the model code of conduct, removed his name from the DMK list of star activists, and banned him from campaigning for 48 hours “with immediate effect.”
The Commission also recommended that Raja remain vigilant and not make derogatory, indecent, derogatory, obscene comments and disparage the dignity of women in the future during the election campaign.
