Land Around Gir Is Ceded To Trading Houses, Says Amicus Curiae To Gujarat High Court | India News

AHMEDABAD: The amicus curiae in the PIL presented suo motu by Gujarat’s high court for lion conservation has told the court that the area around Gir is being turned over to corporate houses and would lead to the destruction of the forest area.
Attorney Hemang Shah filed an affidavit at the HC on Wednesday in response to state government submissions that no parcel of land has been allocated to date for railroad improvement and for the laying of oil pipelines. and gas and fiber optics, and there are only proposals. to this effect at different levels.
The amicus curiae questioned the forest department’s claims that no land has been allocated for the modernization and electrification of the railways. He cited a TOI report released on December 4 that said there was no environmental impact assessment prior to submitting an award proposal for 148 hectares of land for this project. He also claimed that the installation of oil and gas pipelines would cause environmental damage in the future.
After refuting the government’s claims that steps are being taken to protect Asian lions and the forest, the amicus curiae urged the CH to suspend the operation and implementation of these proposals. “If the Asian lion dwelling is not protected, there will be no more lions. The entire region is systematically eroding. The area around Gir is given over to corporate houses and that will lead to the destruction of the forest area, ”says the amicus curie response.
