Maharashtra slaps curbs from 8pm to 7am, bans gatherings of more than 5 people | India News


MUMBAI: With the increase in Covid cases in the state, the Maharashtra government imposed a new set of restrictions on Saturday, banning gatherings of more than five people in public places from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting Saturday at midnight and declaring that public places such as gardens, beaches and boardwalks will be closed between 8:00 pm and 7:00 am
All movie theaters, shopping centers, restaurants and auditoriums will also be closed from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. However, home delivery and take-out from restaurants will be allowed based on existing hours. The state has also extended the blockade, which was in effect in any case, until April 15.
Anyone found to be in violation of the new rules will be penalized with Rs 1,000, and establishments that violate time restrictions or other guidelines will be closed until such time as Covid continues to be notified as a pandemic, according to the notification. Penalties will also be imposed under the Disaster Management Act. Officials said there have been no changes to store hours, although local administrations have been empowered to make decisions in their areas.
Hotelier associations and mall representatives felt the new order was similar to a total closure, as it would seriously affect late-night shopping and the dining business.
With the Center noting that home isolation rules are being violated, the state has asked patients who opt for home isolation to provide their physician’s information to local authorities, and it will be the physician’s responsibility to ensure that All rules are followed and in case of violation, the doctor must immediately inform the authorities and withdraw his consent to supervise the patient.
