BJP criticizes Raut for joining Deshmukh despite indictment | India News

MUMBAI: Maharashtra BJP leader Pravin Darekar criticized Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday for his refusal to request the resignation of state Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh, despite “serious” allegations made. against him by former Mumbai Police Chief Param Bir Singh.
Singh had last week written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, alleging that Deshnmukh wanted police officers to collect Rs 100 million a month from bars and hotels.
Darekar said: “The leader of the Seine, Sanjay Raut, had no problem seeking the resignation of Sanjay Rathod, a minister who belonged to his own party, for his alleged role in the suspicious death of a young woman last month.”
Rathod resigned as minister of state in February.
“However, he refuses to demand the resignation of the CPN leader and Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh, despite the serious accusations leveled against him by Param Bir Singh. Is Raut a spokesman for the CPN or Shiv Sena?” said the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council of the state.
Raut is supporting Deshmukh and said there is no need for his resignation, Darekar said. PTI ND NP
