India has provided more than 481 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccines to various countries: Government | India News


NEW DELHI: India has provided more than 481 lakhs of coronavirus vaccine doses to various countries, the government informed Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
In written response to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs V Muraleedharan said that external supplies are made taking into account domestic production, the requirements of the national vaccination program and requests for Made- in-India.
Supplies will continue in the coming weeks and months in a phased manner, depending on production and the needs of the national vaccination program, he said.
India started external supply of Made-in-India vaccines on January 20, the minister said.
The supplies are carried out in three ways: subsidy, commercial sales by the manufacturers and through the COVAX facilities of the GAVI vaccine alliance.
According to the details given by Muraleedharan of the vaccines shipped from India up to March 4, of the 481.06 lakh doses of vaccine shipped to various countries, 73.5 lakh doses have been provided as grant aid, 288, 4 lakh of commercial doses and 119.16 lakh of COVAX doses.
