PM Modi Opens ‘Maitri Setu’ Between India and Bangladesh: Highlights | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina inaugurated ‘Maitri Setu’, the bridge built over the Feni River connecting India and Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Delivering the opening speech, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the opening of the Feni Bridge is a historic moment as the two countries enter a new era of connectivity.
“We are in a region that has remained conservative in openness and international trade is well below its potential. I believe that political borders should not become physical barriers to trade.”
The cross-border transportation system that Bangladesh is developing with India will help livelihoods in Tripura and nearby states as well. “The Feni Bridge will significantly improve the socio-economic conditions of the people,” he said.
