NEW DELH: Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar took their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday, a spokesperson said.
The Covid-19 vaccination campaign had declared at Nirvachan Sadan, the EC headquarters here, on March 4 for its officers and staff. Former Chief Elections Commissioner MS Gill was the first to take the photo.
Arora had recently announced that all electoral service personnel for the next assembly elections had been declared “front-line workers” and will be vaccinated before assuming their electoral functions.
The vaccine would encourage election officials to do their duty without fear of Covid-19, Arora had said.
The commission had announced elections on February 26 in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
As part of the special vaccination campaign, hundreds of thousands of election officials will be inoculated in all five states and across the union territory before proceeding with the elections.
