Women Farmers Key to Making Indian Agriculture Self-Sufficient: Government | India News

NEW DELHI: Women are the backbone of India’s agricultural sector and their contribution is critical to making the sector self-sufficient, according to the government.
At a virtual event organized by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) to mark International Women’s Day on Monday, two Union State Ministers of Agriculture, Parshottam Rupala and Kailash Choudhary, spoke about the contribution of women in all sectors, including agriculture.
Rupala highlighted the various central government schemes that aim to empower women in all aspects of life, while Choudhary praised the contribution of women in the agricultural and livestock sectors.
Choudhary emphasized that “the role of women is essential to achieve the goal of doubling the income of farmers,” said an ICAR statement.
Stating that women are the backbone of Indian agriculture, ICAR CEO Trilochan Mohapatra said that women’s contributions are important in helping the agricultural sector prosper.
The council is committed to strengthening the leadership of women in the agricultural and agricultural sectors, he added.
Madhya Pradesh MLA Archana Chitnis emphasized ensuring nutrition security and quality education for women involved in agriculture.
