Rajya Sabha gets up for the day; meet at the usual time | India News

NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha was suspended for the day without conducting any legislative transaction amid an uproar from opposition members demanding a discussion on rising fuel prices.
The Chamber was suspended for the first time for about an hour until 11 a.m. and then again until 1 p.m. when opposition parties created an uproar over their demand to hold a discussion on the sharp increase in prices of gasoline, diesel and LPG cylinders.
However, the president did not give in to their demands.
When the Upper House met again at 1 pm, it was suspended again until 1:15 pm and then until 1:30 pm. This time, Vandana Chavan, who was in the Presidency, adjourned the House session for the day.
Meanwhile, the Upper House will meet in its usual hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting Tuesday. The hours were changed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from last year’s monsoon session due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The revised schedules continued during the first stage of the budget session.
Before suspending the proceedings, Chavan said: “In the request received from many members from various parties, the Hon President has decided that as of Tuesday, that is, tomorrow March 9, 2021, the Rajya Sabha session will start from 11 AM At 6 PM according to the regular hours of the Chamber “.
Members will sit in the chamber and galleries only with some distance, Chavan said, adding that details of the session plan will be released to party members later that day.
