NCB Files Charge Sheet Against Rhea Chakraborty and Others in Drug Case | India News

MUMBAI: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday filed a charge sheet against 33 defendants, including actor Rhea Chakraborty, in the drug case it investigated in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The charge sheet filed with the special tribunal for the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) is about 12,000 odd pages long. It includes the statements of 200 witnesses.
The NCB said the evidence includes call data records, WhatsApp chats and bank documents. He said the investigation against other defendants not named on this charge sheet will continue.
Among the offenses, many were charged with “smuggling and harboring offenders” under section 27A of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). The strict section attracts a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Other defendants include Showik Chakraborty, Rhea’s brother, and executive film producer Kshitij Prasad. Showik was accused of procuring marijuana for the Rajput, who was in a relationship with Rhea before her death in June. Two foreign nationals are also mentioned in the case, including the brother of actor Arjun Rampal’s partner, Agisilaos Demetriades.
While Rhea was arrested in September, on October 7, the Bombay High Court, while granting her bail, found that there was no evidence to suggest that she financed the drug trade, which was key to the strict Section 27A charge. under the NDPS Act. The court noted that “helping to obtain drugs for Sushant is not the same as housing and financing drugs.”
Some defendants in the case remain in jail.
