NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday showed apprehensions over the failure to use the Covid-19 vaccine to its fullest capacity.
The court also ordered the country’s leading Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers, Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India (SII), to disclose their ability to make Covaxin and Covishield vaccines.
Here are the key observations made by the high court on Covid-19 vaccines:
– “We are not using Covid-19 vaccines in their entirety. Either we are donating them to foreign countries or selling them and we are not vaccinating our own people. So there has to be that sense of responsibility and urgency,” said a bank of judges. Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli said.
-The high court ordered the Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India to submit separate affidavits on their ability to manufacture the vaccines by day / week / month and also on the current optics of vaccines and unused capacity.
– “The Union of India (UoI) will explain the rationale for maintaining strict control over the class of people who can be vaccinated as indicated in our last order. Under the current system, people over 60 years of age and between 45 and 60 years with comorbidities can receive vaccination, “said the superior court.
-The Delhi High Court Bar Association and the Delhi Bar Council have been asked to submit an affidavit revealing judicial force. “It should indicate how many of them would be covered by the existing policy and how many would be left out,” the court said.
-The court has asked the Delhi government to carry out an inspection of the medical facilities available in the judicial complexes here and to report whether Covid-19 vaccination centers could be established there and also the deficiencies in the facilities.
-The high court asked all authorities to submit their affidavits before March 9 and listed the matter for an additional hearing on March 10.
