Even Porn Is Shown On OTT Platforms, Some Balancing Is Needed: Supreme Court | India News

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court said Thursday that there should be some screenings of shows and web series that are broadcast on television on over the top (OTT) platforms and asked the government to present a recently formulated regulation by tomorrow.
“Some regulation was needed as in some cases pornography is even shown on such platforms and a balance must be maintained,” SC’s bank said.
The Supreme Court heard an appeal from the commercial director of Amazon Prime Video Aparna Purohit, against the order of the Allahabad high court that denied him advance bail, in the ongoing investigation against the web series ‘Tandav’.
Tomorrow the court will examine the regulations of the Center and the declaration of bail of Aparna Purohit.

On February 25, the government notified new rules for social media and OTT platforms ostensibly to provide a level playing field for media platforms traversing print, television and digital platforms, while adding that digital platforms that do business in India they would have to follow Indian law. land.
Under the new rules, OTT platforms and digital media will have to disclose information about where they post, the nature of the content they share, and the size of their subscriber data. They will also be asked to establish a grievance redress mechanism.
For the regulation of OTT platforms, the government ordered that a self-regulatory body be established, headed by the retired judge or an eminent person.
An independent oversight mechanism has also been proposed, as a third level.
‘Tandav’ case
On February 25, the superior court refused to provide protection from arrest to Purohit by dismissing her request for early bail.
The Uttar Pradesh police had filed an FIR against the chief executive of Amazon Prime for derogatory portrayal of Hindu deities and promoting religious enmity through the series.
‘Tandav’ actor Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Purohit and the creators had approached the high court seeking protection against arrest in the FIRs recorded against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and transmitting objectionable content.
