Congress Accuses Governor of Protecting Manipur Government | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress accused Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla of saving the state government by refusing to disqualify MLAs who were appointed as assembly clerks after defections from Congress in 2017 against which the high court ruled in September 2020.
When the party brought the leadership of the state Congress to the capital to criticize BJP for “stealing the mandate” and then bypassing legal requirements, Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “12 MLAs from BJP Manipur should have been disqualified in 2018 from office of profit case “. Now, ECI says that the governor of Manipur has already received instructions on the same, but no action has yet been taken. Totally unconstitutional for the governor to protect the BJP. ”
Flanked by former CM Ibobi Singh, PCC Chairman Govindas Konthoujam, CWC member Gaikhangam and the party’s MLAs, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that the 12 MLA who were appointed assembly secretaries should have been disqualified after the high court ruling six months ago, but they were being protected. by a “friend” CE and a “partisan” governor.
Meanwhile, some media reports indicated that EC, in its opinion relayed to the governor of Manipur, found no reason for the disqualification of the BJP deputies. EC, however, declined to confirm this, and its spokesperson tweeted that “ECI never talks about privileged communication.”
