BENGALURU: The Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) has reported the deaths of two researchers, both on Tuesday, on campus, including one death by suicide.
While Randhir Kumar, 36, a PhD fellow, was found hanging in his shelter room, Rahul Prathap, 31, an MTech student, collapsed while practicing soccer around 7:30 p.m.
“One of the students, who was pursuing his doctorate at the Center for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), committed suicide. The other student, who was following his MTech from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, collapsed and did not respond while playing soccer on the Gymkhana field, ”reads a statement from the IISc.
After receiving first aid treatment at the IISc Health Center, he (Prathap) was immediately taken to MS Ramaiah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the IISc added.
K Jayraj, registration assistant (security, shelters), told TOI: “In the case of Randhir, his friends could not locate him last night (Tuesday) and since he did not open the door of his room, they informed the security found it. pendant. The police were immediately informed and are investigating the matter. ”
The CeNSE website, which has pictures of all the students, had basic details like their educational background and current advisors / guides, it has removed all the details from Kumar. The department head did not respond to TOI immediately.
“We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the students. We strongly urge members of the IISc community to seek help from our wellness facilities and resources, ”the institute’s statement reads.
