Mehbooba moves HC for passport renewal | India News

SRINAGAR: Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has approached the high court for the issuance of a renewed passport, which, according to her, did not happen due to lack of police verification.
In his guilty plea, Mehbooba said that the passport that was issued to him was valid until May 31, 2019 and that he had applied for its renewal on December 11 of last year.
“The passport, according to the instruction manual, was expected to be sent within 30 days,” he said in his guilty plea.
“After receiving the application, complete in all respects, the Regional Passport Office requested police verification from the additional director general of police, CID and the Srinagar district senior superintendent of police,” he said.
Even after the passage of more than a month, the passport was not sent. He later discovered that his case is not progressing as the physical police verification was pending. Mehbooba said that he then made a representation to the passport officer, stating that even though more than a month had passed, the (police verification) report requested by him has not been provided, despite guidelines issued by the Union of India requiring that the police check must be completed within 21 days.
“Despite the representation, it appears from the file that the additional DGP, CID, for unknown reasons, has not sent the police verification report to the RPO,” he said in his plea, while seeking an address from the authorities involved to issue the passport in your favor quickly.
