3.4 lakh vials of Covaxin lie unused in Karnataka | India News

BENGALURU: The state government has received 3.56,340 doses of Covaxin, of which only 8,468 (2.3%) have been used so far. Unused vials are in the state’s vaccine storage unit here.
The Made-in-India vaccine sent during the first vaccination phase in January has been administered to only six institutions in the state. The vials have an expiration date in May.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi took Covaxin on Monday morning at AIIMS, Delhi, several elders here asked why Covaxin cannot be given to them in Bengaluru hospitals.
“There is no vaccine option as of now, even when older people pay for it. We need to patiently answer these questions and explain the benefits of Covishield to them, ”said a doctor who runs a private hospital in Bengaluru.
The state has seen 21 serious adverse events after vaccination thus far, all after vaccination with Covishield. AEFI have not been reported after covaxin administration.
Meanwhile, Dr. Arundhathi Chandrashekar, director of the National Health Mission, Karnataka, said that Covaxin will be distributed to some districts in mid-March.
