NEW DELHI: On the second anniversary of the Balakot airstrikes, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday hailed the exceptional courage and diligence of the Indian Air Force (IAF), saying that “the success of the attacks has demonstrated India’s strong will to act against terrorism. ”
“On the anniversary of the Balakot air strikes, I salute the exceptional courage and diligence of the Indian Air Force. The success of the Balakot strikes has demonstrated India’s strong will to act against terrorism. We are proud of our Armed Forces keeping India safe and secure, “the Defense Minister tweeted.

On February 14, the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) attacked a CRPF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway near Pulwama in southern Kashmir and killed 40 CPRF personnel.
Days later, the IAF launched an airstrike on a JeM camp in Balakot, in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The airstrike was launched in the early hours of February 26 and Pakistani efforts to launch an offensive the next day to attack Indian military installations in Jammu and Kashmir were thwarted by an IAF alert.
In the dogfight, wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman, piloting a MiG-21 Bison fighter jet and chasing Pakistani jets, crossed into PoK where his plane was shot down. Pakistan stopped him. India also shot down a Pakistani warplane.
