TMC to win Bengal assembly polls with more than 250 seats: Abhishek Banerjee | India News

KULPI: Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee said on Saturday that the TMC will secure more than 250 seats, while the Saffron party will find it difficult to cross the double digit mark.
It countered the BJP’s claim to come to power in the state by winning more than 200 seats at the polls for the 294-member assembly scheduled for April-May.
Addressing a public meeting here in the South 24 Parganas district, Banerjee, who is the chairman of the party’s youth wing and nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reiterated that the saffron party’s clamor for a twin-engine government in West Bengal (the same party government in the Center and the state) will collapse before the single-engine power of Mamata Banerjee.
The TMC is going to form a government for the third consecutive term and the party will remain in power for 50 years, he said.
“West Bengal will elect Mamata Banerjee as chief minister for the third time,” said the Diamond Harbor MP.
Referring to Dinesh Trivedi’s resignation from Rajya Sabha as a member of TMC on Friday, Banerjee said that “Trivedi was saying he felt suffocated. Let him go and get admitted to BJP’s ICU.”
Noting that the only voting board of the BJP is ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and it does not have a development agenda, the TMC leader alleged that the saffron party does not know how to respect women.
“They say Jai Shri Ram and not Jai Siya Ram. This is because they do not know how to respect women,” he added.
‘Jai Siya Ram’, is translated from Hindi as ‘glory to Sita and Lord Ram’, while ‘Jai Shri Ram’ denotes ‘hail Lord Ram’.
The head of the TMC youth wing also alleged that women are tortured in BJP-ruled states such as Gujarat and UP.
“See how the saffron feast showed disrespect to Mamata Banerjee at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose birth anniversary celebrations at the Victoria Memorial in the city,” he said.
He claimed that the BJP leaders who come from North India are a “group of outsiders” who do not know the culture of Bengal and who spread false news to confuse people.
“Let me tell you that our Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee will be there as Maa Durga to fight the BJP who have weapons like CBI and ED,” he said.
Banerjee claimed that the saffron party is trying to influence farmers in the state by promising to provide 18,000 rupees in their accounts, if elected to power, but “Bengal will never sell its backbone to the BJP.”
The BJP has been saying that the saffron party, if it votes for power in the state, will ensure that every farmer in the state receives 18,000 rupees in arrears under the PM-KISAN scheme.
The TMC MP from Diamond Harbor said West Bengal is the only state where people receive free rations and free education.
“Let me say that the BJP should think first of Gujarat, UP and other states. There is no need to worry about Bengal. Outsiders will not rule Bengal,” Banerjee said.
