GN Saibaba, Former Jailed DU Professor, Tests Positive for Covid-19 | India News


NAGPUR: Former Delhi University professor GN Saibaba, who is serving a life sentence in Nagpur Central Prison for Maoist ties, has tested positive for coronavirus, a jail official said on Saturday.
Along with him, three other inmates at the jail were found to have contracted the infection, he said.
“GN Saibaba tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. They will take him in for a CT scan and other tests, after which the doctors will decide whether to transfer him to the Medical College and the Government Hospital for treatment,” the prison superintendent said. , Anup Kumre.
Earlier this week, gangster Arun Gawli and four other inmates from Nagpur jail tested positive for the infection.
Saibaba is in a wheelchair and has 90% physical disabilities.
In 2017, a court in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, convicted him and four others for Maoist ties and for engaging in activities amounting to waging war against the country. Since his conviction, Saibaba has been housed in Nagpur prison.
