DEHRADUN: Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will receive a plane from the Uttarakhand government to return to Mumbai if he wishes, Prime Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said on Friday.
The statement came a day after the governor was forced to disembark from a Maharashtra government plane at Mumbai airport.
Rawat called the treatment inflicted on Koshyari at Mumbai airport by the Maharashtra government an “abuse of power,” Rawat said: “A governor is not an individual, but the constitutional head of a state and representative of the president. It must be shown. I respect your office according to the conventions in a democracy. ”
“He (Koshyari) will receive a state plane from the Uttarakhand government to return to Mumbai if he requests it,” Rawat said.
Koshyari had to disembark from a Maharashtra government plane after sitting in it for about 20 minutes on Thursday when he was told there was no permit for the flight.
Came to Dehradun on his way to Mussoorie to attend an official function.
Subsequently, Koshyari, a former prime minister of Uttarakhand and one of the state’s top BJP leaders, arrived in Dehradun on a scheduled commercial flight.
Condemning the way Koshyari was treated by the Maharashtra government, BJP state chairman Bansidhar Bhagat said: “It was shameful of the Maharashtra government treating him like this. It shows how little democratic norms matter to them.”
