‘Dalit converts to Christianity, Islam will not receive quota’ | India News

Speaking about the eligibility to compete of reserved electoral districts, the minister said: “Paragraph 3 of the Order of the Constitution (scheduled castes) states that … no person professing a religion other than the Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist religion shall be considered a member of a programmed caste. ”
The minister’s statement makes a clear distinction between Dalits who adopt Islam and Christianity and those who choose to adopt Hinduism, Sikhism or Buddhism.
The Union law minister, however, clarified that there was no proposal to introduce any amendment to the People’s Representation Law to prohibit CS / STs who are converting to Islam or Christianity from participating in parliamentary elections. or the assembly.
