Can’t depend on other countries to defend India: Rajnath Singh | India News


BENGALURU: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday that India cannot continue to depend on other countries for its defense.
Under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, India hopes to increase its defense manufacturing capabilities, said Singh, who inaugurated the second LCA-Tejas production line of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited here.
“India cannot continue to depend on other countries for its defense,” he said.
Singh said that Texas is not only indigenous, it is also better than its foreign counterparts on several parameters and comparatively cheaper as well.
“Many countries have shown interest in Texas.
India will reach the target of Rs 1.75 crore lakh in the field of defense manufacturing in (a) few years, “the minister said.
The delivery of the Tejas LCA to the Indian Air Force under an agreement of Rs 48,000 crore will start from March 2024 and around 16 aircraft will be launched annually until the total supply of 83 aircraft is completed, President and CEO of HAL R Madhavan said recently.
Madhavan had also said that several countries have shown great interest in acquiring Tejas and that the first export order is likely to arrive in the next two years.
The Cabinet Security Committee (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved on January 13 the 48,000 crore agreement to acquire 73 variants of the Tejas Mk-1A and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 trainer aircraft from the HAL to boost the Indian air force. combat prowess.
