Tight restrictions likely in 5 districts of Kerala | India News


Citing a continuous increase in the number of new positive Covid cases reported each week between December 9 and January 25, Kerala’s health department has sought strict measures in the districts: Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kollam. .
Thiruvanantha-puram, Wayanad and Kannur have also witnessed a slight increase in cases. A Covid review report has been sent to Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Guidelines on the new restrictions are likely to be finalized soon.
The department has suggested that the occupancy allowed in public transport should be reduced to 50%, allow offices to function only with 50% capacity in clusters and containment zones, the working hours of markets and stores only allowed until 7 pm and no cinemas to be allowed in five districts.
Suggestions have also been made to delay the opening of educational institutions until the pandemic is in a phase of decline. It has also been proposed in the report to restrict attendance at weddings and funerals, in addition to reducing to 50% the capacity of meals in the houses in cafes and restaurants.
