Government hands over India’s assets to crony capitalists: Rahul Gandhi on the Union budget | India News

NEW DELHI: Congressional Leader Rahul Gandhi attacked the Center on Monday after the presentation of the Union Budget 2021-22, claiming the Narendra Modi government plans to hand over India’s assets to crony capitalists.
On Monday, the government budgeted 1.75 million rupees lakh from the sale of shares in public sector companies and financial institutions, including two PSU banks and an insurance company, in the next fiscal year.
“Forget putting cash in the hands of the people, the Modi government plans to hand over the assets of India to its crony capitalist friends,” he said after the presentation of the Union Budget.
Prior to the presentation of the Budget, he said that support should be provided to small and medium-sized enterprises, farmers and workers, and generate employment. Rahul Gandhi also demanded an increase in the health care budget and an increase in defense spending to safeguard the country’s borders.
“The 2021 budget must: Support MSMEs, farmers and workers to create jobs. Increase health spending to save lives. Increase defense spending to safeguard borders,” he said on Twitter.
Revealing PES policy in Budget 2021-22, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that except for four strategic areas, public sector companies in other sectors will be sold. The policy would provide a clear roadmap for divestment in strategic and non-strategic sectors.
