Deeply concerned about developments in Myanmar, says India | India News


NEW DELHI: India has viewed developments in Myanmar with “deep concern” and has called for the democratic process to be maintained in the neighboring country.
“We have watched developments in Myanmar with deep concern. India has always strongly supported the democratic transition process in Myanmar. We believe that the rule of law and the democratic process should be respected. We are closely monitoring the situation,” the Ministry said. of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
Myanmar’s military staged a coup on Monday, detaining de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi and declaring that it had taken control of the country for a year under the state of emergency.
Suu Kyi and President Win Myint were arrested in the capital, Naypyidaw, before dawn on Monday, NLD spokesman Myo Nyunt told AFP, just hours before parliament resumed for the first time since the elections.
