VADODARA / HYDERABAD: A 30-year-old Gujaratic sanitation worker with a suspected heart condition died within hours of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday, while a 55-year-old health worker in Telangana who had fallen ill on the 10th day since his vaccination succumbed to what health officials called “underlying comorbidities.” In both cases, which brought the number of people who died in India after vaccination to 12, family members blamed the alleged side effects of the Covishield vaccine for the deaths.
In Vadodara, the health of municipal corporation employee Jignesh Solanki deteriorated rapidly after he was forced to get vaccinated at his workplace, his brother Ganesh alleged. They took him to SSG Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. “He was unconscious three to four hours after the vaccine was administered. If there had been any reaction due to the vaccine, it would have occurred within the first 30 minutes, ”said Dr. Ranjan Aiyer, superintendent of SSG Hospital.
Civic Medical Officer Dr Devesh Patel said the body was sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. “The medical history of the deceased shows that he suffered from compensated heart disease since 2016.”
Telangana’s third death after vaccination was reported in Kasipet in the Mancherial district. The deceased, whose name the health authorities did not, had been administered a dose of Covishield on January 19 at a primary health center in Kasipet, apparently not experiencing any problems until last Friday.
