HOWRAH: Accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal of falling into corruption, Union Minister Smriti Irani said on Sunday that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi provided food grains to 80 crore of the country’s people for eight months during the pandemic, the rations were looted by party in the state.
Maintaining that more than 50 million rupees-man-days were created under ‘Garib Rojgar Yojana’ for migrant workers returning home, Irani claimed that “it did not happen in Bengal.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched in June last year the employment plan for migrant workers who had returned to villages from cities, during the coronavirus lockdown, to help them find jobs close to home and assist in the development of the villages.
“The prime minister provided five kg of rice and one kg of dal for 80 million people in the country for eight months through ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana’, but in Bengal, TMC looted it during the shutdown,” he said in a BJP rally here. .
Stating that the Shramik special trains organized by the Center were dubbed ‘Corona Express’ by Mamata Banerjee, Irani said: “I want to ask you whether Bengali sons and daughters working in different parts of the country are considered viruses by her.”
