NEW DELHI: Union Interior Secretary Ajay Bhalla briefed Interior Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday about the situation in Delhi, where the farm tractor demonstration against farm laws turned violent, authorities said.
The meeting came after large numbers of farmers with their tractors broke through police barricades and entered central Delhi areas, including the Red Fort and the ITO.
The interior secretary met with the interior minister and briefed him on the situation in the national capital and the measures being taken by the Delhi Police to keep the peace, an official said.
Some other officials were also present at the meeting.
The Union Interior Ministry has already ordered a temporary suspension of the Internet in some parts of Delhi.
With sticks and clubs and holding the tricolor and union flags, tens of thousands of farmers on tractors broke barriers, clashed with the police and entered the city from various points to besiege the Red Fort and climb the flagpole on the Republic Day.
Farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at various border points in Delhi, including Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur, since November 28, demanding the complete repeal of three agricultural laws and one legal guarantee on the minimum price of sustenance for its farmers. crops.
