Flight Lieutenant Swati Rathore: First female pilot to lead flypast on Republic Day | India News

Flight Lieutenant Swati Rathore is set to write history by becoming the first female pilot to lead the flypast on Republic Day. She will fly the IAF-flagged Mi-17 V5 in a formation of four helicopters.
Rathore dreamed of becoming a pilot from a young age. Rathore’s father, Bhawani Singh, told TOI: “Swati had always wanted to join the IAF. When she was a child, whenever she drew pictures, it was that of an airplane. This was why she also signed up for the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

While at NCC, she won a gold medal in shooting and appeared for the Air Force Common Admission Test in 2013. She was selected to the IAF on her first attempt.
The 28-year-old officer was also part of the rescue operation carried out by the IAF during the Kerala floods of 2018.
