‘I will quit politics in 24 hours if …’: Mamata’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, challenges the BJP over dynastic politics | India News

SUR 24 PARGANAS: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Deputy Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the nephew of state Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee, challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday for dynastic politics and said he would happily resign if the latter presents a law that requires only one family member to remain in a particular political party.
Addressing a public meeting in Diamond Harbor, Abhishek Banerjee said: “I will leave politics in 24 hours. Those who speak of the family system have five members each of their families in politics. BJP leaders such as Mukul Roy, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Suvendu Adhikari and Rajnath Singh have other members of their families in a prominent position. ”
Furthermore, he urged the Prime Minister to introduce a bill in Parliament that binds only one person from a family to a particular political party.
“There will only be Mamata Banerjee of our family in politics if you (BJP) make sure that there will be only one family member in politics. Can you accept this challenge? I ask the Prime Minister to introduce a bill in Parliament that allows only one member of a family in politics, “said the TMC leader.
At their political rallies prior to the assembly elections in Bengal, BJP has been harshly attacking Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek for dynastic politics calling the duo ‘pisi-bhaipo’. The newly incorporated BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had many times called TMC a ‘private limited partnership’ of Mamata and Abhishek.
Elections for 294 seats in the assembly in West Bengal are scheduled for the end of this year.
