Covid-19 vaccination: More than 16 lakh recipients inoculated | India News

NEW DELHI: Total number of beneficiaries vaccinated against Covid-19 crossed 16 lakh on Sunday with Karnataka inoculating the highest number of healthcare workers so far with over 1.91 lakh, followed by Odisha (1.52 lakh) and Andhra Pradesh (1.47 lakh).
On Sunday, only five states: Haryana, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu held vaccination sessions. The provisional data compiled by the Ministry of Health showed that 31,466 beneficiaries were vaccinated in 693 sessions held in these states until 6:30 pm on the ninth day. Only 10 adverse events were reported after vaccination on Sunday.
“The final reports for the day would be completed late tonight,” the Health Ministry said.
So far, 16,13,667 beneficiaries have been inoculated against Covid-19 since the vaccination campaign was launched on January 16 with two vaccines: the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca developed Covishield and Covaxin from Bharat Biotech, both locally made.
The government aims to vaccinate three million frontline and healthcare workers in the first round, likely to be completed between March and April.
In the next round, “priority” population groups will be covered, including those over 50 and younger but with comorbidities. Once the vaccine supply improves, the government can also start inoculating the priority groups simultaneously.
