WHO salutes India and Prime Minister Modi for their support of the global Covid response | India News


NEW DELHI: World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for the country’s support for the global response to Covid-19.
Thank you India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for your continued support of the global Covid-19 response. Only if #ACCJuntos, including knowledge sharing, can stop this virus and save lives and livelihoods, ”Tedros said in a tweet.
India has supplied Covid-19 vaccines to 13 foreign countries, including its neighbors like Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. The government has also trained immunization program managers using Indian vaccines covering all aspects of the vaccine launch.
On Friday, the United States also applauded India for gifting Covid-19 vaccines to various countries, saying New Delhi is a “true friend” that is using its pharmaceutical industry to help the global community.
Brazilian President Jair M. Bolsonaro also used his official Twitter account to thank Prime Minister Modi for the vaccine supplies. Bolsonaro tweeted: “Brazil is honored to have a great partner to overcome a global hurdle by joining forces. Thank you for helping us with vaccine exports from India to Brazil. Dhanyavaad ”
India, which is a major supplier of medicines and pharmaceuticals to the world, has played an important role even during Covid-19.
