Mamata criticizes the Center for abolishing the panel of the plan “conceptualized by Netaji” | India News

CALCUTTA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Center on Saturday for abolishing the Planning Commission, which she says was conceptualized by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Addressing a program at Netaji Bhavan here on his 125th birthday, Banerjee described Bose as an icon who had advocated for unity among all communities in the country.
He also demanded that Netaji’s birthday on January 23 be declared a national holiday.
“Why was the National Planning Commission dissolved, which was conceptualized by Netaji in independent India? Why is our government’s demand for a holiday on Netaji’s birthday still not being met?” Banerjee said in his short speech.
The Narendra Modi government dissolved the Planning Commission in 2014 and formed Niti Aayog.
Banerjee said: “We do not remember Netaji before the elections. He is in our hearts for 365 days. We are in contact with his family.”
He also said that Netaji was described as ‘Deshnayak’ by Rabindranath Tagore.
“We celebrate his birthday as Deshnayak Diwas,” Banerjee added.
